What’s growing in the garden today? More tomatoes and some beautiful pink miniature roses.
When I was young, I watched and admired project after project that my mother seemed to just assemble in no time on her handy-dandy electric sewing machine. I wanted to be like her, so I was taught basic hand and embroidery stitchery before it was time to move on to THE MACHINE! My grandmother who lived next door had passed away when I was a baby, but she left me her Singer treadle (pedal) sewing machine. My parents probably figured it would be better for me to sew my finger with a pedal machine rather than an electric one – I concur, so my dad got a new belt for it and they taught me how to use and care for the machine. I did wonders with it. The only thing I really could not do was back-stitch, but I conquered that, too. I could sew almost as fast as my mother on her powerful electric monster, and the treadle one made the most beautiful stitches. I miss it.
Here is a blog that might be of interest with pictures and a story about a steal of deal the author got on a Singer treadle sewing machine: http://cathyscrazybydesign.blogspot.com/2009/09/great-estate-sale-my-new-treadle.html
In the coming days and weeks, I want to include some info from my sewing garden (especially if the temps stay the way they are). So, here is to Happy Gardening!
