I had a reaction to the medicine I began taking yesterday. It is called Flagyl or the generic, Metronidazole. Sometimes being short has its advantages like when I fell last night. I didn’t have very far to go but I hit my head and some other great things happened. I also started to experience numbness like when I have a seizure.. twice.. earlier. I spent some time on the floor but luckily my daughter was here at the time.

Last year it was Cipro. I took one pill and I was on the floor within 30 minutes and remained there all day and part of the night. My BP began dropping, more like nose-diving. I could not raise my head. That is some nasty stuff. 😦
Whether it is because I have an AVM or other vascular issues or due to my taking Phenytoin nearly 85% of my life (I began to say 90% but did the calculation 🙂 ), I have no idea. I found warnings for people with seizures and who take Phenytoin. Hello, (hand wave)… that’s me. The seizures are usually controlled but the warning is there so this will not happen.
  • I am not the bacteria. 😀
Happy Gardening and may you have no problems with any medications! 😀

As I was sent on my way to first grade my parents said, “Get a spanking at school and there will be one waiting for you when you get home.” I didn’t try to find out how true that was but knowing my parents there would not be just one but two

spankings waiting for me. We didn’t have a woodshed; we didn’t even have a fireplace until I was 14 😀 , but that would NOT deter my parents. Many parents in the area were the same as mine. You know that phrase, “Spare the rod, spoil the child?” That sentiment was emblazoned on a wood plaque in many a home. We were raised to respect people and property—well, most of us.

IN THE NEWS — Another cemetery was vandalized in Alabama last week. I saw the headline and checked to see if it was one I knew. It wasn’t but there was a particular cemetery near where my mother grew up dating back to a battle during the War of 1812. It had been vandalized several times (not the only cemetery but this has become a type of recreation 😦 ). An ancestor that settled this area had a brother killed and is buried at the one from 1812 . The cemetery was moved at least twice, the first was to make way for a lake then it was moved again to make way for a subdivision. People do not have respect for others. It is a shame. It was suspected that teenagers were hanging out in the area drinking when they spray-painted some of the stones and then went back and broke them not once, not even twice, but several times. It was a sad scene.

I guess you have seen about the Petraeus scandal. I have been trying to avoid as much news as possible but that has not escaped my eyes. At the risk of sounding crass, “Guys, what is it that causes this?” Are you really willing to throw everything away? Women do it, too, but what has happened to respect, respect for others, respect for property, respect for oneself and just pure respect? Where are the boundary lines? You can make anything exciting if you want to and it doesn’t have to be with someone ELSE’s spouse or without your spouse. I’m still trying to get over Mark Sanford and a few others who were out living it up while their wife was performing some super woman feat—one was giving birth to their child. And, let us not forget John Edwards… I can’t even write those words. Men who leave their wives when their wives have health issues… I told my husband that I would so like to take him out to the woodshed, or get someone else to… Well, you get the picture.

I urge us all to know where our boundaries are and if not, learn them. See them and cherish what we have. As for the tombstones…I think this is worse than a crime of vandalism. It is a crime against home and sanctuary—it was their place of rest. When we dumb-down the crime by making it less sensational, we do a disservice to us and all of the people that pass after us. And, infidelity… You wouldn’t want to be treated with such lack of respect so treat others better than you would want to be treated…PLEASE. Thank you!

By the way, I never got a spanking all through school–not from the teachers but I did get in trouble one time…I would rather have had a spanking… 🙂 …I would rather have had three. Be good to others and cherish your spouse! Happy Gardening! 😀

My Boo-boo

The pattern calls for 3 picots and I made 4. What a bad mistake even if it is early on. I thought about doing an alternating sequence but if I can’t remember 3 rather than 4 do you really think I can remember to go 3-4-3-4?? Not in any way, shape, or form–too many cobwebs. And, by adding the extra picot I made the chain longer which will not look right. 😦

I was so happy to get some smaller yarn to try. It is more dainty looking (I cannot say “daintier”). This is a size 20. I had been using a size 10. There is a big difference and the needle I am using now is a size 7 which also makes a difference. Is that confusing enough? The yarn/thread goes even smaller believe it or not. Normally this wouldn’t be a big thing but since the thread is smaller, I could not get the finishing knot out. I still have almost no feeling in the right hand and it has become more cumbersome to use. All of this will have to be trashed—not that it matters about the knots but about the long tail that doesn’t show.

If you would like to learn this type of tatting, there are plenty of videos on the web and there is a book I purchased at Hobby Lobby using a 40% coupon making my total to be about $15. It is not the best book but it included needles (not sure all of theirs do). It is called Learn Needle Tatting Step-by-Step by Barbara Foster. This particular book included 4 needles AND a needle threader. A set of needles was about $12 on its own, so I figure I did pretty well.

I have a lot to learn and as evident above and there are lots of misfires in that brain of mine. I still confuse right and left but we won’t go there. Have a most blessed day and may you be a light for someone who needs it today. Happy Gardening in all that you do, and we can all become master gardeners on the road of life! Please take care. 😀

Many people don’t believe in luck. Good luck, bad luck, it is all the same, right? No, not necessarily. Many people have told me this year that if I didn’t have bad luck that I would have no luck at all. This is meant in good fun and they are trying to bring a smile to my face if I don’t already have one. BTW, this is supposed to be a “humorous” post except that it is real and is my life right now 😀 .

We all seem to have bad times but I still cannot seem to shake mine. Last week, one of my father’s first cousins called me to tell me about her sister passing—her last sibling. I didn’t know any of my dad’s father’s family except my dad’s father. It was what I call a Christmas miracle several years ago when we got in touch. I wanted to find some of the family and with help from a family genealogist she was able to call me. She had been waiting a couple of decades (or more) for me to find her. Anyway, she hated to call and give me bad news. The guy who helped get us together has also passed away and another relative of theirs. It was a sad call and then I dropped my bombshell of news about my situation. She cried—I cried…

Then as my daughter was putting lights outside for the trick-or-treaters one of my outside lights began to flicker like there was a short. I had already lost an overhead light in the kitchen earlier that day. I didn’t know what was going on. Well, this light fell completely apart—little pieces. Photo included—excuse the cobwebs. Since I have a pair of these, I had to buy two new lights—didn’t get what I really wanted but maybe these will not fall apart. I just have to get them installed 😦 .

Not the end of the story… I was making toast the next day and what happens? I wouldn’t believe it if I had not seen it. The middle piece of the toaster that holds the heating element—part of it fell out. I am not kidding! So, you see, if I did not have this case of bad luck (and worse has happened) I would have no luck at all. I am not even getting into the toilet upstairs, the outside faucet, and so many other things.

Whatever happens in your day may it be a very blessed one! Happy Gardening! 😀

When I thought life could not get any worse, yesterday was a 20 on a scale from 1-10 with 10 being so horrible. When I went to pay the tag bill the lady behind the counter said I could not pay it because I did not live in the county. What a shock to hear that I didn’t live in the house I have been living the last 20 years and had just come from minutes ago. So, I went to see where I did live. How surprised to see my husband’s patrol car sitting outside when he was supposed to be working. I had not been able to reach him for days. The “other” car that is supposedly registered to “us” was missing though I don’t know what it looks like (and it isn’t registered to me…).

I could proceed to tell you that I began to leave messages with people who I would never call asking him to contact me. I could tell you that I left notes at my new address where I have never been before. I could tell you what happened when he finally contacted me but you wouldn’t believe the conversation…

I live in a dream state—everything is in slow motion right in front of me and the rest is all passing by at the speed of a bullet. My heart is numb from pain and too much adrenaline. And, to top things off, my ankle locked up causing me to fall down the stairs–I really hurt myself. I am swimming in a cesspool. There is a lot of information and needless drama left out of all of this but believe me, it is truly awful and that is without any added embellishment—it sure isn’t needed. The fish is really that big and stinks so bad the dead can smell it—no disrespect to the dead. I thought I had heard everything, but I was wrong—so wrong. I could write all of this down for a drama—a movie—and you would think it is a comedy.

Appreciation… When the cesspool you are in is knee deep and smells so bad, just be glad and happy that it is not waist deep or even chest deep. Appreciate where you are and what is going on—the good things, no matter how small, no matter where you are in life. I wish I could tell you everything was going to be ok. I am trying really hard.

Take care and Happy Gardening!

It seems that every day someone or a computer calls my house at least once trying to sell me something or get me to participate in a political poll or something. I have an unlisted phone number but that doesn’t do any good. And, a year ago this month my car was totaled and hauled away but that does not stop these people wanting to supply me with an extended warranty for the car that does not exist—at least not in my possession. The latest individuals have started calling more than once a day…and I tell them I do not own that car.

Here are some of the more recent calls…

Computer voice:  “The FBI reports that there is a home break-in….” [This has become a daily call.]

Last time, I wanted to speak with a representative but they hung up on me. I told them that I had a security system named Simon. He wanted to know what kind of security that was and I told him he was a watchcat that would scratch out the intruders eyes. He wanted to know what would happen after Simon was subdued… I politely said,

“I would take my gun and shoot the person…”

CLICK…dial tone. The next time they call, I plan to do something similar. I can ask them not to call but it does no good—I have tried that route.

Other calls—

Computer voice:  “Someone in your house qualifies for medical insurance…” [How would you know???]

Computer voice:  “This is Rachel from cardmember services…” [She calls at least once a week.]

Computer sound:  Boat horn. “Don’t miss the boat…” [I hate this one and have received these for years.]

Computer voice:  “Someone from this number has requested mortgage foreclosure assistance…” [Yeah, sure they have.]

I used to get angry. Then there was the day that the guy called my cell phone with a pitch and the next day the same guy, not a computer, called the house…

Then there were the calls right after the deaths of the police officers wanting us to donate money—not for the officers’ family or for expenses, etc. but to something they were pitching. While I understand this probably more than a lot of people, I don’t agree with it because this was using tragedy to make money. I was getting about 2+ calls a week and each one said they had never contacted us before… I received about 20 or more calls. One guy said that they only call once a year but at least one other person had called a few weeks before and gave me the same exact spiel that he gave. I couldn’t substantiate any of the calls and choose to give directly to the individual’s family or to the account set up for the fallen officer.

Many of the computer calls have an option to press a button to be removed and I have never had one of these to work. As for the car warranty ones, they threaten that “this” will be my last chance—last call—yeah, and I have some beachfront property… Oh, and a couple of people wanted to know what kind of car I drive now… Do you really think I just fell of the turnip truck—–really? No disrespect to turnips or people who grow and sell them.

I want a button on the phone that I can press that will remove my number from all of their data banks… I know people have to make a living but I draw the line at these crazy calls where the person preys on my emotions in order to separate me from my money. Excuse me, I think I hear the phone…

Have a great day and Happy Gardening! 😀

I’m sorry. Whatever is wrong in your world, I am sorry.

When I woke up this morning I had no idea my day was going to turn into such a cesspool. I was trying not to post about certain things in my life but I have to write about this. I’m so sorry.

I had not received the bill for the car tag that is due later this month—my husband’s birthday is this month and it is registered to him because his name is listed first on the loan. Background info:  We have ONE car—ONE CAR so imagine the surprise I had when the woman asked  **which**  car I needed the info on!!!!!!!!!!

Which car???

Ok, I’m thinking to myself, “Did my husband get himself a car????”

No, it turns out that he bought his girlfriend a car!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or, rather he signed a loan for her……………………..and is giving her the money to pay for her car………………………………

I am taking applications for a new husband. Anyone who wants to apply, just leave me a note—only serious applicants need to submit… :D. I would say I am joking but I’m not sure anymore…

I hope your day is so much better than mine! 😀  I could not make this stuff up if I wanted.

Budgets–I’m pretty good at getting my money’s worth–maybe more, and I’ve been known to squeeze blood from a turnip–well, that’s what my family thinks.

I got an email tonight that said the state archives in Morrow will be closing Nov 1 of this year because of budget constraints. Ok. I didn’t know anything about this but I checked and sure enough it appears to be accurate.*** According to the email, this will be the only state archives in the nation that will not be open to the public. There have been some really bad decisions lately to come out of Atlanta and this is another one.

I don’t readily make my opinions known but lately I have done so a bit more often. No, I didn’t sign a petition or

other such document. I decided to email the governor directly and let him know how I felt. Personally, I think he can reduce some of his personal spending out of his office to take care of this. I am nothing great but I do have ancestors who helped settle parts of the state and many of the ancestral lines have remained here—I’m one of them. I think this is a disgrace to the present and past citizens. I know genealogy and research of past history (redundant) is not everyone’s cup of tea but our history is important—all of our histories.

Well, I thought I’d get that off my chest. I feel better. I’m sure nothing will happen but you know, if I don’t say anything I don’t have a right to complain later.

May your gardens look beautiful all through the day! Happy Gardening! 😀

*** The archives will not be open to the public as it is now but will be taking appointments as time and staff allows but with the cut in staff, it does not sound that this will be promising.

I subscribe to receive the weekend edition of my newspaper. I used to receive the daily one for years on end, but problems with one of the carriers years ago prompted me to go to the weekend only-actually I tried to change to the Sunday edition but the paper threw in Friday and Saturday for the same price. Since it is Masters week, we are supposed to get a bonus paper every day through the end of the tournament and then the special edition on Monday with the winner of the green jacket. It is now Thursday and I have not received the first bonus paper from this new carrier though I keep calling to complain. I don’t like to complain. I like everything to go smoothly with as few bumps in the road as possible.

Back when I had to go out of state to take care of my grandma some years ago, a nice man from the paper came and put my newspaper box up. I thought everyone should get one if this was the case with the nice customer service and the fact that I didn’t have to pay anything extra. A few papers can fit nicely without being scattered on the lawn or having to call to stop the paper…that’s if you can the carrier to put the paper in the box. 😐

I have had some great carriers over the years but they are very few and very far between. It’s a tough job. I understand, but leaving the paper in the street is always a bad sign and that’s what we had a few years ago-could not get mine in the box, ever, and people had to dodge papers when driving down the street-the person could not get them on the driveway. I called and complained and complained to no end trying to get this changed. Finally the person moved on or got fired-can’t remember.

Well, my paper just came. The district manager just brought it out so my carrier still hasn’t brought a bonus paper. We’ll see what Monday brings. No paper means I have to call again and this time get angry. I do not like getting angry. But, sometimes being calm and civil doesn’t get me anywhere. I am amazed that the paper came today when they said I had to wait until tomorrow to get today’s paper. Perhaps it was when I said something about my subscription was up this month. Nah… That wouldn’t matter, would it?

Happy Gardening and may all of your readings be worth your while!

It’s gripe day and I’m Fed-UP!

This is gripe day. Back in July, my daughter’s phone literally broke. She had problems with it for 2 years, had it replaced once, but it took a while for it to start messing up like buttons not working. Two weeks after she got the new one, it quit working and Verizon replaced it. Then my hubby’s phone was almost completely shot so he got one back in August; 4 weeks later it quit working – something about the antenna going out. They could not replace it from the store but had Fed-ex send a replacement – was supposed to be here in 2 days. Well, I waited and no delivery guy came so my hubby called Verizon only to find out that “yes, the driver attempted delivery but no one came to the door so he left a note.” That was NOT true! I had the door open most of the day and no one came up to the house. I kept a careful watch for him looking out the door about every 10-15 minutes and going out on the porch at least every 30 min, sometimes more. No delivery trucks even came down our street until later in the day (a UPS truck) as we live on a cul-de-sac. We can hear them when they drive by. They make a very distinct sound.

This whole thing ticks me off because Fed-ex said that the guy would call me to make another attempt to deliver the phone today – ANOTHER? You have to make one before you can make another one, right? Earlier in the year we had a delivery from Fed-ex w here the guy came up to the door and left a hanger thing but did not ring the doorbell or knock on the door. I happened to hear something on the porch and opened the door to check but the guy had just gone. Weird about that, the time of delivery that he put on the hanger had not yet passed. In other words, he was putting a future time on the hanger and then did not bother to try to get me to answer the door. Don’t know how that works since they have to key in the time they come to the door.

My hubby ended up having to go and pick up the package this evening. When he tried to give them a piece of his mind, they just shook it off and said that the driver made a mistake and went to the wrong door – no big deal. That’s funny since we have a sign on our mailbox that clearly displays our address. I know that this is a thankless job, but this was lousy service and the support people do not even act interested in solving problems or seeing to it that service improves. If I have a choice of shipping, I choose almost anything over Fed-ex. So, today is gripe day, and here’s to being FED UP WITH FED-EX!

We are half-way though the month of Sept. We are still having temps in the mid 90s and sometimes upper 90s. Summer is trying to hang on forever it seems. Hope your gardens are happy!
